Declaring that the German gov- ernment and people heartily welcome the appointment of the “Gen. Dawes” commission and hoped for an early report because they want the true status of affairs known to the world as adjudged by a neutral body, Frau Adele Schreider, member of the German reichstag, in an address be fore a large audience of prominent people, including United States sen- ators, representatives and officials, a: & luncheon at the New Ebbitt Hotel yesterday, declared that the commie- sfon would find German mony in f eign banks, but not enough. in ad- dition to credit balances, to keep Ger- man {ndustry alive or to effect French: reparations demands. “The German people” declared Frau Schreiber are caught between French and German Junkerism. She deplored that some Germans were “bootlea- ging” in money by taking it out of the country and sald “the amount taken out s not large enough to jus- tify the l\“! rlnknda' about it.” “You may as well talk of paying off your national debt with the profits of b’on(- leggers as to think that the sums taken out by these men would make a dent in the reparations demanded by Poincare,” she declared. Oniy One Finaneial Source. “The only source from which we can obtain money to pay reparations with is from profits on our exports. She stated that there was no doubt some of the German bankers specu- lated and made money out of the mark depreciation, but did not think that they deliberately brought about the deprectation. . In speaking of labor, she declared: Tou are not told, perhaps, that our trade unions are willing to make ad- justments, work overtime and give extra pay to ald rellef work to the 5,000,000 unemployed in German: said Frau Schreder. Referring to the kaiser, Frau Schnclder eald: “It is not Stinnes. Thyssen, and men of their kind who | threaten the republic. It is men of the type of Ludendorf and the old Prussian militarists that we have to fear. They are the old Pan-German- ists, with their former dreams of world empire and conquest. They do not expect to put the former kai- ser or crown prince back on the throne, but they want a monarchy. They hato progressives of every typ they hate the Jews and would estab- lish pogoms.
