THE EVENING ST BBLEASSCHDDL STUDY I RGED Adult Sunday School Classes Makes Recommendation in Late Action. That the Bible fould be made a major course of study in the public schools of Washington, with full credit given all students successfully pursuing such instruction, is the con- tention of the Men's Organized Bible Class Assoclation of the District of Columbia. This assoclation is composed of delegates from the principal adult Bible classes of the city, and repre- sents practically every' Protestant evangelical denomination. At the an- nual convention of the association, held at Leesburg, Va., last summer, it was voted fo Include this que tion as dne of the major items to be taken under consideration this year. Inasmuch as this is a Christian na- tion, so stated to be in clear and definite terms by the Supreme Court of the United States, it is only log- ical. the Bible assoclation argues, to include the Christian Bible in the curriculum of instruction for the boys and girls, who are to become the future citizens of ‘the nation. This instruction, it is explained, would be handled in no narrow d nominational or controversial way but, as it should be, on broud, Chris- tian lines. The Bible class men urge th a necessity of the times, as one pra tical step at least in si tempting to meet the cri: is felt, confronts the nation tod: From statistics already gathered it is saown, the association states, that a eubstantially large number of states have, through state legisla- tion or otherwise, provided for Bible instruction in the public schools of such states, giving such instruction the status of a major subject with full credit toward graduation. There is no reason, the association contends, why the District of Colum- bia, the seat of the capital of the greatest Christian natlon in world, should not, likewise, of study for its boys and girls being the Christian Bible in the curriculum educated to take their places as the Chrirtian eitizens of tomorrow.
