Margins of profit taken by whol salers in the anthracite {ndustry h continued to decline since conclu- slon of the recent miners’ strike, the Federal Trade Commission reported today, although a considerable ton- nage is still being passed through the hands of two or more middlemen, with consequent enhancement of price before being released for con- sumption. Third Report of Series. The commisgion’s report today is the third of a‘series on the market situation. Immediately after the strike, the commission said, during the period of a shortage market the commission found that wholesalers who merely took orders for the coal in some cases were charging as much as $1 a ton for the service. As high as 37 per cent of the coal sold through the middlemen bore a com- mission of 50 to 75 cents per ton. In the last week covered by the report, that of October 20, about 2§ per cent of the coal traced carried a commission of between 50 and T cents a ton.
