PHILADELPHIA, November 2.—In line with Gov. Pinchot's suggestion for halting bootlegging actlvities, federal prohibition agents today be- gan a check-up on,.the permits of manufacturers of aleohol under gov- ernment license. All manufacturers in the eastern Pennsylvania district were ordered last night to send a list of their customers to the office of Reuben B. Sams, divisional enforces ment chief, who declared that much of the denatured alcohol manufac- tured by these plants has found its way into the hands of bootleggers. In & recent raid on a moonshine plant, Sams said, prohibition agents had found twelve barrels of denatured alcohol and receipts indicating that the plant used between 150 and 200 barrels a month. Manufacturers whose activities are found to be questionable, it was said, would have thelr permits revoked pending further investigation.
