BALTIMORE, July 3.—About 5,000 clerks employed at various points on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad sys- tem have had their pay ralsed 10 cents per day, effective July 1. Some of (haflolher clagses of labor will also receive increases, it was announced, as a result of the conference on wages and working conditions held between officlals of the company and representatives of the Brotherhood of Rallway and Steamship Clerk Freight Handlers and Station Em ployes. Frelght station employes will re- ceive an increase of 20 cents per day and miscellaneous station and ba gage room employes will receive in- creases of 1 and 2 cents an hour. The eight-hour day is in effect for all classes of labor affected by the agree. mont. The increase in pay of the clerks goes to all those who have been in the employ of the company for two years or more and very near- ly restores the scale in effect June 30, 1922, when the United States La- bor Board ordered a cut of 3 cents an hour.
