NEW YORK, June masted schooner, bearing on her stern the name Mary Beatrice of Nassau, safled into quarantine to- day with fifteen young and well- dressed Chinese the only occupants —a_strange ship with a weird story of the sea. When quarantine officlals found nothing of cargo or papers, customs authorities were notified, an inter- preter summoned and the strange story unfolded. Twenty Chinese had bargained with the owner of the schooner, a white man, for $500 aplece to take them aboard and land them some- where on the American coast. On May 8 last they set out from Havana, twenty Chinese, two white men and a negro. » When the food supply ran low they begged the tall sailor man who owned the boat to carry out his promise and land them.
