Gillett, Speaker of the Houi of Representatives, and his sister, Mi Luey D. Gillett, have donated $15,000 toward the remodeling of the present Atheneum buflding in this eity. The building was the former Fowler-Gillett home and the birthplace of Speaker Glllett. The announcement of this do- natign for the development of the work of the Westfleld Atheneum came from ‘Willlam B. Reed, chairman of the com- mittee named to secure plans for the new Whitney Library. It is planned that the use of the present building will be continued after the construction of the new library. Mrs. Florence Rand Lang of Montclair, N. J.,, who was born in Westfleld, also has become _inter- ested in the project and has donated $560,000 toward the erection of an art museum to become a part of the atheneum group. The house in which Speaker Gillett was born was built as the residence of James Fowler, the grandfather of Mr. Gillett, and when it is restored for atheneum purposes it will be known as the Fowler-Gillett House. The Whitney Library. toward the bullding of which the late Milton B. Whitney left to the Westfleld atheneum 380,000, will be the dominat- Ing feature of the atheneum with its art museum and Fowler-Gillett House. It is the intention of the directors to secure plans which will combine these three projects in a beautiful and harmonious building or group of buildings. After the plans have been decided upon the construction will begin as soon as building condi- tions warrant. ’ .00 Sunday e Excursion SUNDAY, JUNE 24 SPECIAL THROUGH TRAIN Via Delaware River Bridge Eastern Standard Time Leaves Washington 12:01 AM.
