By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, June 11.—The Amer- ican portion of the international Aus- trian loan, amounting to $25,000,000 7 per cent bonds, was oversubscribed the | fifteen minutes after the books were | opened at 10 o'clock this morning, ac- cording to an announcement by J. P. Morgan & Co. ‘Bonds Well Secured. The issue, which consiste of twen- ty-year 7 per cent sinking fund gold bonds were offered at 90 to yield investors 8 per cent. The bonds are guaranteed as to principal, interest and redemption payments by the gov- ernments of Great Britain, France, Czechoslovakia, Ttaly, Belgium, Swe- den, Denmark and Holland, and are secured by a first charge on the gross receipts of the Austrian customs and tobacco monopoly. “The importance of the Austrian loan,” J. P. Morgan, head of the banking firm of J. P. Morgan & Co., said fn announcing the offering “lies in the fact that the attitude of Amer- ican investors to this loan shows they are interested in helping those nations of Kurope which are prepared to help themselves toward the re- establishment of their credit. Lmportant Credit Step. “The amount, while large, is not excessive, and we have found the American investing public in_accord with us in our bellef that the new Austrian bonds are a good invest- ment, and that the extension of this credit is an important step on the road to neace and normal trade.” The bonds will be ixsued in denomi- nations of $1,000, $500 and $100. Prin- ofpal and interest will be payable in New York at the office of J. 'P. Mor- gan & Co. in United States gold coin. without any deduction for any Austrian taxes, present or future. LOAN CLOSED IN LONDON. LONDON, June 11.--The £11,000.000 block of the new Austrian loan, which the Bank of England undertook te float, was so well received by the in- vesting public that the lixt was closed before noon today, This was taken to indicate that the British share of the issue would be largely oversub- wribed SUGAR FUTURES DROP. Weakness in European Market Affects Prices Here. NEW YORK, June 11.—The early raw sugar market was unsettled by harp decline in futures and in the absence of transactions, prices were nominal. The continued weakness in the European market and only « light domestic demand for refined sugar led to renewed selling in raw sugar futures with prices at midday show- ing declines of to 27 points. A private report placing the Cuban pro- duction up to May 31. at 3,588,918 tons also had her a bearish influence and may have promoted some of the lling which seemed to come from both trade interests and brokers with Turopean connections. —_— BOSTON STOCK MARKET.
