My, T PLAVED GOLF AT THe PoMonek * GoLE CouRse TODAY, p I WENT AROUND I The Speed Cop | The speed cop rides his motor cycle, his costly shield upon his breast, pursuing James or Pete or Michael, who knocks the statutes galley west. In rain'and shine and in the blizzard he chases Jones or Smith or Brown; the motion lacer- atds his gizzard and turns his liver upside down. And after chasing some offender, at sixty-seven miles an hour, and ruining his best sus- pender, he's feeling grim and peeved and sour. He overtakes the nutty speeder, and says, “You're pinched, and you'll be fined; of all speed demons you're the leader—you leave chain lightning far behind.” Then if the speeder keeps his senses he will be gracious and polite; he will not add to his offenses by cussing that official wight. He'll say, “Oh, copper, I am sorry I gave you such a beastly race; I know I 'shouldn’t push my lorry at such a fierce and frightful pace. I hate to see you tired and sweating, I see my work was raw and coarse; hereafter I'll not be forgetting the laws you splendidly enforce.” The cop ex- pects a show of passion, a flow of language hot apd blue, and when you answer in meeck fashion, he looks with kindly eye on you. And it may chance that he will mutter, “You must go slower when you ride; just let your henry up and flutter—this time, I guess I'll- let the historic land from the North sea to the Swiss frontier. you slide.” (Copyright). .
