| AVIATION ACTIVITIES IN WASHINGTON Naval Air Station. % The F-5-L is the Beouting plane and during the war for operations. It is the plane in service use in the Navy, hav- ing @ wing span of 104 feet and a Yength of forty-nine feet. Two liberty engines, rated at 330 horsepower, fur nish the motive power. The F-b has @ cruising radius of approximately 600 miies. It is equipped with radio sending and receiving sets and a yadio compass for navigation pur- poses. It was in this type of plane that Lieut. Commander H. B. Grow established a world record for sea- plane endurace in 1919 when he r mained the air for over hours, ampton roads. an F-5-L was used to twenty men from Hampton roads to Philadelphia. The normal crew is from four to six men. Eighteen of these planes accompanied the fieet of battleships to Panama during the past winter and took part in the naval maneuvers.
