NEW YORK, May 10.—Quotations for high-grade bonds were higher again today, particularly in the legal for saving banks class. Atchison General 4s, for instance, sold on a 4% per cent basis, within 2 points of the high of the year. Cen- tral Pacific 48 sold on a 5.05 basis, within 2% points of the high of the year. Chicago, Burlington and Quincy §s were up within a fraction of par. Pennsylvania Ceneral 5s crossed par. Northern Pacific 4lis were up a point. Northern Paclfic 6s were also within practically 2 points of the high of the r. Atlantic Coast Line 4s were up a full point, ylelding well under 5 per cent. *Union Pacific refunding 4s sold a 48 basis on Actlon Causes Surprise. There was no change in the quota- tion for time money sufficient to ac- count for this upswing in high-grade bonds. Nor, as far as could be learn- ed, was there much institutional buy- ing. The fact that private investors should be eager to accumulate able securities giving such a low re- turn seems surprising. One explana- tion was that the bond market had been temporarily relieved of the press- ure of new offcrings. It was also pointed out that current quotations mada the new United States Treasury 43 notes at par look very cheap.
