FEdward James Birch, a )ifclong resident of Washington, for many years connected with the Post Office Department and for a number of years superintendent of station A of the city post office service in George- town, died Saturday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. George C. Al- temus, 2700 Connecticut avenue northwest, aged seventy-six years. The funeral wad held this afternoon from the home of his daushter, whore he died. Fev. Walter Mors pastor of ‘the Mount Fleasant (on- gregational Church, officiating. The intermoent was in Rock Creek ceme- tery. Mr. Birch wad- a resident of Georgetown many years. He was fn- | terested in all that had for the pro motion of that section of the city. For thirty-two years he had be: connected with the Post Office De- partment. He retired from active life four years ago. He was a mem- jber of Calvary Methodist Church and during his active lifo was a mem- bar of a number of the organi- zations in the Post Office Depart- ment.
