J. The |l location of this wire counection with | WJZ is in the octagonal turret on the |l roof (5th avenue and 34th street|gy corner) of the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria. | WJZ's Waldorf-Astoria studio is con- nected with the station on the West- | inghouse plant at Newark by special wires of the Western Union system. The wire runs underground from the Waldort to 6th avenue, where it with WJZ's extensions to the St. Thomas’ Church and then runs to Walker street, where it is connected with a special switchboard used ex- clusively for WJZ's wire extensions. Three special cables, all copper wire, lead from the special switchboard through the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western tunnel to New Jersey, | where they mount Western Union poles paralleling the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western tracks to the Westinghouse plant in Newark. WJZ's Waldorf-Astoria studio is a further extension of the use of re- mote control wires for relaying broadcasts_direct from the scene of action to Newark. Considerable Im- provement has been made in this service since broadcasting the world series base ball games direct from the Polo Grounds and the city sym- phony concerts from the Lewishon | Stadium last year. Special wires are now connected with the St. Thomas' Church, the West End Presbyterian, Theater, Carnegie Hall, Estey Organ Concert Hall, Stelnway Piano Concert Hall and the Hotels Pennsylvania, Astor, Plaza, Biltmore and the Waldorf-Astoria, Installations which have given the radlo audience the pirvilege of hearing gome of mo‘ music. The first broadcast of WiZ to | be heard in the British Isies was re- layed from the Estey Organ Concert !
