Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, January —Two parishes of the Protestant Episcopal diocese of Maryland Mave requested that women be granted the privilege of voting and holding office in these parishes. The reauest was made at the annual diocesan convention held here this week. The requests from the two parishes were referred to a committee on canons. The act of the Maryland legislature of 1922 granting franchises to women in the Protestant Epfscopal Church does not automatically confer the privilege, but only when request is made by the vestry of the separate churches to the diocesan convention. It also was suggested from the floor that a special committee be appointed to consider whether the acceptance by the diocese of the privilege grant- ed by the act of the legislature of 1922 “for the franchise of women in the diocese will make the old vestry act subject to amendments at any other ‘time. This committee, it was suggested, should report at the next diogesan convention. Right Rev. John Gardner Murray, bishop of the diocese, in his report, said that during the vear he held 181 confirmation services and confirmed 1,525 persons, three more than in 1921, which was the banner year to that date in the present diocesan ter- ritory. Next year the diocesan convention will be held in Hagerstown. For the past*fifteen years the convention has met in Baltimore. MISSION WORK, TOPIC.
