BURLINGTON, Vt, January 2.— Judge Moulton yesterday reserved de- cision on a motfon to set aside. the $465.000 verdict awarded to Mrs. Dorrit Stevens Woodhouse by a jury in an allenation suit brought against her parents-in-law, Mr. ‘and Mrs. *Lorenzo E. Woodhouse of New York | and Burlington. It was intimated that no decision would be made for at least a month. The motién of the defentlants ask- ed for a new trial of the case, de- claring the verdict to be excessive and unwarranted and the result of prejudice, passion and bias, Replying to the arguments for the defendant, presented on Saturday, Attorney Austen, for the plaintiff, argued that the evidence produced at the trial had shown conclusively that the parents of Douglas Woodhouse had interferred in his matrimonial aftairs. He cited alleged instances, including their giving him funds to %o to Reno to start divorce proceed- ings and introducing him to a di- vorcee of Washingtan, D. C. whose name was frequently mentioned at the trial. Attorney Austen declared that demonstrations of applause in_a courtroom, such as occurred at the Woodhouse trial, were not sufficient 10 cause a verdict to be set aside.
