I fornians, roughly appraised, mount to_milllons more. - I Lewis Stone, admittedly the most ; hero of the “north- | western mounted police” and who is so well fitted to the role as to convey the impression that he could do nothing else so well, does away with that theory with an astonishing display of the qualities of the roman- ‘ tio adventurer who is the chlef factor in the play. The kindly smile which he usually reserves for pitiful crim- " ;inals and snow-bound infants rac diates into romantic devotion, and, his sword fight nst a quartet of ' villains is a thrilling thing to see. PALACE—“The $5 Baby.” “The $5 Baby.” although & perfectly appropriate title for Viola Dana’s plo- ture shown at the Palace Theater this week, is somewhat misleading to those familiar with Miss Dana’s usual type of picture. This young actress usually lays great emphasis on the fact that she has been voted the “flapper supreme’ of the screen and she seems to be very proud of the title. Whi r or not she feels that the flapper is on the wane in the eves of the public, it is impossible to State, but at least she portrays a very different type of girl in this, her latest picture. This is the story of a little orphan stolen from the steps of a foundling asylum, where. she had been left by a desperate mother. The thief is an unscrupulous degenerate.
