Three of them were unconcious and one had a fractured skull from a fall. Police records also enumerated four violent deaths attributable to holiday over-indulgence, sixteen men and women in hospitals with gunshot or knife wounds. Twelve raids were made by prohi- bition officers, including a descent on Relsenweber’s, at. 58th street and Sth avenue, -and eimilar interfer- ence with the festivities at a half dozen Greenwich Village tea rooms. Opinions differed on whether the prohibitionists succeeded. Wild Revelation. The Evening Telegram described the night as a “celebration which rlvlll"ed the wildest pre-prohibition days.’ William H.
