Cross of the Rocke- feller Institute died here this morn- ing, a victim of yellow fever. Dr, Cross came here early this month to open a laboratory for study of yellow fever and marsh fever for the Rockefeller Institute. Twelve dayn ago he went to Tuxtepec, center of the yellow fover district, and after spending two days there Inspecting sanitary conditions contracted the dis- ease. He was immediately brought hero, and futile offorts were made to save his life. The funeral will take place tomor- row, attended by the medical corps and ‘representativoes of the authorities. CARR DIES ON EVE OF BANQUET IN HIS HONOR Formerly Prominent in Medical Circlez Here, Had Been Living in West Virginia. BB HOHYTON DR. W. P. CARR. Dr. William Phillips Carr, for many vears prominent in medical circles in Washington, died at the home of rcl- atives in Summit Point, W. Va., early this morning from heart disease. Dr. Carr was born in Boydton, Va., in 1858. He attended Leesburg A emy and Randolph-Macon Academy and in 1888 received his medical dc gree from Columbian University here, now George Washington Unlver. Following _his graduation he was a surgeon at George Washington Uni- versity Hospital and later joined the staff ‘of Emergency Hospital. Two months ago the staff of that institu- tion conferred on him the title of sur- geon emeritus. Dr. Carr also was con- sulting physician at the Washington Asylum Hospital and St. Elizabeth's Hospital. A member and fellow of many med- ical societies in Washington, Dr, Carr was a fellow and founder of the American College of Surgeons in Chi- cago in 1913. He heid a membership in the Medical Society of Washington, the Washington Surgical Society and the Virginia Medical Socicty and was « fellow of the Southern Surkical and Gynecological Society st fall Dr. Carr retired from active practice as a surgeon and went to t Virginia, where he lived with ives. The Medical Soclety of the rict had completed plans for a banquet to be given in his honor at the University Club Thursday. and it was said by D B. Jackson, a friend of the deceased, that Dr. Carr had accepted and planned to be pres- ent at that time.
