APPOINTMENT DELAYED. President Not to Pick Recorder of Deeds at Once. Appointment of a recorder of deeds for the District of Columbia will not be made by President Marding until after the Christmas holidays. This was sauthoritatively stated at the White House, following the Presi- dent's bi-weekly conference with the cabinet, and it as made known at the same time that the President has prac- tically made up his mind as to his choice for this important federal post and that his selection will not likely be from among the several local aspirants. It is understood that J. A Lott, a eolored attorney of Indianapclis, Ind., who is strongly backed bv Senators liew and Watson of thac state, and who is said to have a long record of activities in the interests of the re- public-n party, both in that state and elsewhere, stands first on the list of the several candidates being consid- ered by the President.
