WOMA BY ELENORE Seen in Washington Shol;s N’S PAGE./ DE WITT EBY. BY ELEANOR DE WITT EBY. We have seen a great many crino- lines, so-called, during the last year or 8o, and have heard and read about “bouffant lines” and the “old-fashion- ed quaintness of hoop skirts” until we were thoroughly tired of them. How- * ever, practically without exception all of the models were modifled con- siderably by having the flare ralsed from the hem to around the hips. So, Wwe may say that a “new” or a “very ©1d” fashion note is coming into vogue with the advent of crinolines, pat- terned almost exactly from those rn in pre-civil-war days. The hoops are placed very near the hems and ‘walst lines have come into their own EVENING _GOWXN HOOPED OUT NEAR HEM IN TRUE CRINOLINE FASHION. again, but we are forced to admit that grandma might be a bit shocked at the sleeveless bodices and diaphanous skirt drapery seen In some of the new creations. This is cut in points at the lower edge and border- ed with a wide flouace of silver lace, matching that on the bodice. Under: neath a foundation of light shell-pink georgette s dimly discernible, so that the effect is not too transparent. Long silver streamers dangle from the latticed ribbon girdle and form a bright, fringelike trimming for the skirt, while a spray of pink roses and smilax lends its grace to the corsage. | As much attention Is being given to | the evening coiffure, milady's hair | should be dressed in 4 quaint style in keeping with the gown. and a rose cluster correspondiug with that on the dress would add an effective touch. ‘Advance models for spring or Palm Beach wear are making their debut in_the local shops just in time for holiday social everts. They are more irresistible than ever 'before and show mew colors and color combina- tions, even though we thought they had all been exh.usted long ago. The model illustrated is of navy blue georgette, youthfully designed, with large, flowing kimono slecves and a wide gathered skirt which flares slightly over the hips. C., THURSDAY, DECEMB Unusual Soups.: The unusual soup often starts off a very ordinary dinner with a great ap- Peal to the appetite and the eyes. A famous chef and hotel man was re- cently bewalling the fact tl ghe could no longer offer hotel ‘patrons various soups and entrees because one could no longer use wine in pre- paring them. But we ‘need’ mot: let that worry us. There are still many very interesting foups that.we may offer our fuests. Some are gl here. Remember that serving a very hot s one of the most Important things connected with it. Remember, too, that minced parsley, egg balls and other garnishes add more to the tempting appearance of a soup than they do even to its taste. ' Veal Celery Soup. Cut up three pounds of veal; break | the bones; cover with four quarts of | cold water and simmer for four hours; strain_and return to the fire. Add two bunches of celery and two chopped onlons; simmer til the vegetables are done. Press tbrough a ' fine sleve: thicken with two table- spoons of cornstarch mixed Wwith two ! cups of milk; add two tablespoons of ' butter in small bits: raheat and serve with dice of fried bread. Sweetbread Soup. Reheat one quart of veal stock and add two cups of cream which has been béaten with the yolks of two eggs. Take from the fire, season to | taste and add one cup of parboiled sweetbreads cut in bits. Garnish with one cup of whipped cream and a bit of minced parsley. Peanut Bisque, Half a pint of peanut butter is re- quired in making this soup. It is sold very .reasonably at the grocer's in glass jars, or a housewife can prepare her own from the roasted nuts, in which case shell and remove the brown skins while the nuts are hot. Dust lightly with salt and grind at | once. Pack in tumblers and keep in & cool place until they are needed. Put the peanut butter, together with one quart of milk, oré teaspoon of grated onion and » saitsnoon o° celery seed, into a double boiler and stir until they become hot. Now add | atablespoon of cornstarch moistened in cold milk and allow it to thicken. Strain and season with half a tea- spoon of salt, a dash of pepper and a dash of paprika. ‘Walnut Soup. After removing the kernels from the walnuts, chop “them flne and cover with one pint of water, one table- spoon of onion juice, one saltspoon of pepper and one teaspoon of salt. Cook for thirty minutes and add one pint of hot milk. Thicken the soup with one level® tablespoon of cornstarch moistened in cold milk. Before serv- ing. add the well beaten yolk of one eBE.
