LONDON, September 29.—Vio- ¢ lent attacks upon the Duke D'Aos- { ta, cousin of King Victor Emman- uel of Italy, by the newspaper Il Paesi of Rome has created a great sensation in that city, says a Rome | ~gispatch to the London Times. The newspaper charges the duke with inspiring and prétecting the fas- . cistl, or extreme nationalists, and striving to gain the throne, with the support of certaln generals and KILLED BY MOTOR TRUCK. 4 ember of 51st Artillery on Way From Camp Jackson to Eustis. DAVIDSON, N. C., September 29.— Hugh Orrell of Knoxville, Tenn.. mem- ber of the advance of the Glst Artillery, now moving overland from Camp Jackson, S. C., to Camp Eustis, . Va.. was crushed to death at Davidson Coliege late yesterday, wien he and a % companion were caught ‘between two heavy Army trucks. The detachment had halted at David- #on for refreshments. and when re- sumption of the march was ordered the driver of one of the trucks, instead of moving forward threw the gears in his machine in reverse, causing it to move unexpectedly backward upon the truck just to its rear. Orrell and a companion, whose name could not be obtained, were between the two trucks. Orrell was caught and instantly Kkilled, But_the companion escaped with only slight_injury. Last night 450 men of the 5ist, with sixteen heavy guns, forty tractors and thirty trucks, under command of Maj. McCaskie, were encamped here. They Tesumed their march toward Virginia today. POLICE CHIEF RESIGNS. First Result of Agreement Between Bavaria and Berlin. LONDON. September 29.—The first result of the agreement between Ba- varia and the central government in Berlin, has been the resignation of the Bavarian chief of police. Herr Poehner, says a dispatch to the Lon- don Times, from Berlin. ‘The dispatch adds that Poehner, more than Dr. Von Kahr, the former p premier of Bavaria, was behind the % monarchists and in favor of the re- tention of the Einwohnerwehr and ’ other reactionary measures in Bavaria. other officers. i The Times' cofrespondent adds that rumors of such a movement have been current in Italy for some time, and it nas been - suggested that the Duke D'Aosta has bcen spreading _discontent = with the present regime in the ranks of the carabineri and army generally. A promise I id to have been made by Il i, which is the chief newspaper supporting former Premier Nittl, that a regular cam- paign will be carried out against the royal leaders in the Italian third army.
