MEN USE BARRAGE WHEN PERSHING REVIEWS Army Chief Officiates Today as French Troops Appear in Re- view at Mayence. By the Associated Press. COBLENZ, September 28.—Gen. Per- shing today rode back and forth be- fore the advancing lines of American troops engaged in maneuvers and watched them charge under cover of an artillery barrage. The troops used ball ammunition in their machine guns, demolishing their objectives and scaring up flocks of rabbits, that scampered in all directions. Gen. Pershing was accompanied by Maj. Gen. Henry T. Allen, commander- in-chief of the American forces in the occupied territory, and Gen. Moreiand of the British army. A demonstration of war problems finished the man- euvers and the troops marched to their station. There was a polo game in the after- noon, and a dinner and reception were held 'at 8 o'clock In the evening at Gen. Allen’'s home, attended by thirty of the allied commanders and Rhine- land officials. The 5th Cuirassiers of the French army will meet Gen. Per- shing when he goes to Mayence to- morrow and escort him into the city, where he will visit Gen. Degouttee and review the French troops. DIES AT 115; SURVIVORS OLD. EL PASO, Tex., September 29.— Juan Flores, 115 years old, died here yesterday. His wife, 102 years old, and a son, aged eighty, survive. Mr. Flores witnessed the attalnment of Mexico's independence, centenary cele- bration of which was observed re- cently.
