LABOR VOTE PARLEY SUPPORT Central Union Favors Arms Conference and Will Join Demonstration. Central Labor Union last night-placed itself on record not only as a supporter of the conference on limitation of arma- ments, but also as an agency Which will take the lead in a public demonstration 1ot approval of the conference. The meeting, which was held in Mu- sicians’ Hally voted to’ support the American Federation of Labor program for a public demonstration, following an address by Vice President Matthew 'Woll of the federation. John B. Colpoys, as head of the committee in charge of the demonstration, asked for and re- ceived permission’ to arrange a mass meeting in Convention Hall on the night of November 11, Armistice day, at which organized labor will publicly’ proclaim its support of the aims of the limita- tion of arms parley. Opposition Develops. Mr. Woll appealed to the delegates on_the ground that labor hot only had suffered in the past from war, but also had always inherited a portion of the burden of readjustment, especially in the payment of debts incurred from | | | | | | war. Opposition to the demonstration cropped up from the delegation - of | machinists, supported by renresenta- tives of the painters and waiters. It was pointed out that the personnel of the American delegation did not meet with all wishes of organized labor and that the program would not be in keeping with the safeguarding of the policy of the republic. John B. Colpoys and Frank J. Cole- man led the supporters of the Ameri- can Federation of Labor program for the support of the parley. Both made addresses from the floor on the sub- ject, and the entire discussion con- sumed more than two hours. The re- sult was a close vote in favor of sup- porting the American Federation pro- gram. Gompers May Be Speaker. It is expected that President Gom- pers will be one of the principal speakers at the meeting on November 11. A number of other speakers, prominent both in labor circles and in civic life, will have parts on the program. Arrangements for a musi- cal program are to be made. hLast Week of the Sebtember Sale Special Opportunity to efurnish the Bedroom The bargains in the September Sale include specials for every room.
