COST OF YANKS ON RHINE TO BE SOUGHT BY U. S. |Subject to Be Discussed at Allied Financial Conference in Brussels. | By the Associated Press. PARIS, September 22—The cost o maintenans: i the American army of 0c~3,a00n on the Rhine and the ques- t1on of payment for its upkeep is lo b= one of the chief subjects for discussion at the allied financial conference to be Leld in Brussels the first week in Oc- i tober. The Unitad States will take an active part in the discussion, the Washington government having designated Roland W. Boyden and Brig. Gen. H. T. Allen, commander of the American army of occupation, and several assistants to attend the conference. The American delegates have been instructed, it is said. sirongly to main- tain that the United States through its Separate treaty with Germany has given up no rights provided for under the treaty of Versailles. Insistence will be made by the Ameri- sentatives that ~ the United t be included in any allied agreement for the payment of s of the armies of occupation. Informal conversations on this subject have been neld from time to time by the American representatives and allied officials, but nothing of a definite char- acter it expected before the Brussels meeting. In American circles in Paris the ex- pectation is that a new allied agree- ment will be reached on the apportior.- ment of the first billion marks of the German indemnity so as to give France a share. In the deliberaiions on this problem the American delegates, it is asserted, will maintain silence.
