Mec- Neil stated tonight he had obtained a written confession from Frank Raw- lings of Chicago charging that John Pope, a well known attorney of this city, planned the robbery of a local theater last Sunday night in which . George H. Hickman. its manager, was ¢ ' shot and killed. Mr. McNeil stated that Irwin Novitzsky, an electrician of this city, also has implicated Pope. Pope and Novitzsky are being held on charges of accessories before the fact and Rawlings is held on a charge of murder. Johnnie Novitzsky, alias Mayfleld, said to be Novitzsky's wife, was arrested at Fort Myers late last night upon advices from local officials that she was wanted in connection with the affair. Novitzsky admits, according to Mr. McNeill, that he had knowledge of the impending robbery, but denies that he himself praticipated in it. Rawlings' alleged confession, in written form, says, according to the state's attorney, that Pope planned the robbery and waited in an_auto- moblle one block from the theater while it was being carried out. Raw- lings was to have escaped in this car, according to the alleged confession, but’ when Pope saw a policeman clogely following Rawlings in his flight toward the car he speeded away. « Rawlings is quoted as saying that Pope, when he revealed the plan, ex- v Black, navy blue and brown are the predomi- nating colors.
