By the Assoclated Press. DETROIT, Mich, August 17.—De- troit police today were at work on what they asserted was one of the first tangible clues to the wave of ' murder and bombing outrages that has been sweeping through the lacal Italian colony in the past four years. The arrest in New York yesterday of Bartolow Fontaino, former Detroit barber. and e information he gave concerning the murder of eight Ital- qlans here, led local authorities to be- lieve that some light might be sred on the seventy killings which have been recorded in the Italian colony here since 1917. Fontaino, it was said, is not known to the authorities here. but they be- noon to issue and seli $2,235,115.17 of its general and refunding mortgage bonds bearing interest at 7 per cent for twenty years and bearing the date of July 1, 1921. The purpose of the issue as stated in the commission’s order is to reim- burse the company for expenditures already made out of current funds for extensions and betterments, and for other betterments to be made during the balance of this year. The company had requested an issue of $2,500,000, but the commission de- ducted two items of expense on the ground that they should nat be pro- vided for out of such a bond issue. One of ‘these items amounted to $83,698.79 to pay for equipment which the commission states was for the use of the Washington Railway and Electrie Company. The other deduction was $181,286.04, representing debt- discount and expense of previous bond issues, which the commission believes should not be capitalized.
