Morgan. The governor request- ed time to consider them and said that he would dispatch his reply to Keeney, president of District ted Mine Workers of America. NEW YORK, August §.—The second | phase of the walkout ordered by the Musical Mutual Protective Associa- tion came today, when musicians em- ployed in approximately 100 vaude- ville theaters were ordered to.stay out Bf the orchestra pits. Most of the vaudeville managers claimed to be ready with new orchestras, recruited from the ranks of the Amerlcan Fed- eration of Musicians. Moving picture houses felt the force of the walkout yesterday when or- chestras failed to report, under an or- der of the union effective Saturday at midnight. Movie managers met the situation in various ways. Some em- ployed new orchestras, while others relied on pianos or organs. Vocalists were featured at some houses. In others the orchestra pits were con- verted into flower gardens. The walkout was ardered as a pre test against a proposed wage redu tion, and was intended, union officials said, to forestall a lockout which the managers were declared to have | planned for tomorrow. ATLANTA, Ga., Aughst 8.—Sections of the constitution of the Ku-Klux Klan were made public here in a statement by W. J. Simmons, imperial wizard, sworn to before a notary pub- lic, to show, the head of the order said, the purposes of the organization. The statement declares the klan “does not encourage or foster lawless- ness, racial prejudice or religious in- tolerance,” and went on to quote parts of the constitution, which declared its objects were to protect the weak, “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” and to “aid and assist in the execution of all constitu- tional laws.” Col. Simmons’ statement explained that the klan Vis-not de- signed to act in the capacity of a law enforcement or moral correction agen- cy except to assist the regular officers of the law." Publication of parts of the constitu- tion was authorized, it was said, at a meeting of the supreme ‘committee, composed of citizens of New York, is, North Carolina, Georgia, Flor- ama, Mississippi, Louisiana and elsewhere, which was closed yes- terday with dedication of Col.
