UNIONISM A FACTOR . [N SELECTION OF JURY Tentative Talesmen Being Enrolled for the Mattewan Murder Trial at Williamson, W. Va. WILLIAMSON, W. Va., February 4.— A sufficient number of talesmen was on hand when court opened this morn- ing to warrant a continuation of the efforts to obtain a jury to hear the evidence in the Matewan shooting cases. It was apparent from the be- ginning of the session that member- *ship in a trade union was to play an important part from now on in the selection of tentative jurors. Bernard Grace. a machinist, was closely questioned by Attorney James Damron, for the state, regarding his membership in a railroadmen’s organ- {ization. Grace was very frank in his answer and unhesitatingly said he be- lleved his sympathy for union men |might influence his decision if he were ion a jury. . The rumor of last might that the state move to eliminate from the. jury lall union men persisted this morning. {* It was not known when the motion would be flled, but it was generally conceded that it would be done before | [H|’ the twenty tentative jurors were se- lected. Judge R. D. Bailey would make no [ statement on the rumor, confining himself to the assertion that the proper time for his comment was when €he motion was presented. —_— Headaches From Slizht Colds.
