Ross, until "his_ retire- ment last fall one of ‘the oldest at- torneys, in point of service, in the office of the solicitor for the Interior Department, died Monday, according to word received at his home in Ga rett Park, Md. He was formerly mayor of that town. He was in Vir- ginla at the time of his death. Mr. Ross was born in Franklin county, IIL, in 1848. He fought in the civil war and later returned to school. Upon - graduation from college he taught school and read law. He came to Washington in 1890 to accept a position as attorney in the office of the solicitor. for the Interior Department. He served In this ca- pacity until his retirembnt last Au- Bust. Mr. Ross was a delegate to the ni tional republicar convention in 138 which nominated President Harrison.
