Plans for the erection in the near future, at Connecticut avenue and De Sales street, of a motion picture the- ater building at a cost of nearly $1,- 000,000 were disclosed last night by Allan E. Walker at the first meeting of the Connecticut Avenue Assoclation, in the office of Underwood & Under- wood. Mr. Walker announced that it is the intention of the promoters to_make the new theater the largest in Wash- ington and the finest in point of architecture, design and equipment. Work is expected to begin within the next two months, he said. The structure will cost more than $925,000, Mr. Walker stated. The au- | ditorium will seat more than 2,500 persons. The building will cover an area of 24,000 square feet. A two- story entrance lobby will front on Connecticut avenue, with a ~epth of about 30 feet into the building. The ground “l&yout” of the proposed building was exhibited by Mr. Walker at the meeting. It will take about tweylve months to complete the the- ater. he said. Complete plans, with architect’s elevations, will be made public within a few weeks. Musician to Get $10,000 a Year. According to Mr. Walker, arrange- ments virtually have been completed with one of the large film corpora- tions for the presentation of feature photoplays. -An orchestra leader wil be engaged at a salary of $10,000 or more, with a complement of experi- enced musicians. The members of the association, which was organized to conduct a campaign of publicity in promotion of business interests of Connecticut ave- nue, welcomed the news of the pro- posed project with enthusiasm. The new building is to be located on the site of the old Convent of Visi- tation, in the block bounded by Con- necticut avenue, De Sales street, 17th street and L street.
