The Serbian aid benefit ball in the beautiful home of Mr. William Phelps Eno last night had ell the atmosphere of a strictly private affair, and was one of the best appointed dancing events of the winter. The house, planned for large entertaining as well as for a home, was_adequate for the comfort of the hundreds of guests assembled and danc- ing_there, the guests repregenting the diplomatic corps, higher official circles and resident societ The guests were received in the large baliroom and at midnight a supper was served, As members of the. iabinet, ambassaders and other men of affairs swisembled in the large library and sat about. discussing pertinent questions of the day, one realised more than ever how different was the ball from the usual benefit affairs and hew homelike its atmosphere. A still_ more impertant aspect was given the event of last night in that Serbia is not included in the appeals of organizations now carrving on European relief, the grounds taken being that Serbla tan grow her own food. How- ever, there 15 now greater need of reliet there than ever on account of the return of exiles, who form a third of the population. Mme. She wore a Russian corenet of jewels in her coiffure. Mrs. Solby, wife of the Secretary of State, was charming in a gown of lines, with a strand of pearls falling from the shoulder at the left side.
