Death of the Big Elephant at Zoo Pari His elephantine majesty, “Gold Dust,” the Zoo's big attraction, is dead. ‘The ele- phant passed away suddenly Friday night, his decease following a stroll around the park in company with his companion, “Dunk.” “Gold Dust” had not been in ; good health for some time past. His di- | gestion was bad, his teeth did not meet Properly and his food was not well mas- ticated, all of which made the old fellow a confirmed dyspeptic and as cross as couid be. His death was due to inflammation of the intestines, brought about by the causes mentioned. While walking about the Zoo Friday even- ing for exercise “Gold Dust” fell to his knees. His keeper, assisted by ‘‘Dunk,” succeeded in raising the massive animal, but he fell back. A derrick was next se- cured and again “Gold Dust” was lifted to his feet, but by this time he was too ill to stand. He died some time during the
