P AGE. Z/ENERGETIC EFFORT TOMORROW'S! Libraries to Be Voted to the Fire and Police. ATTRACTIVE FEATURES Washington is on the verge of a vote- soliciting campaign that will put the last national contest for the presidency of the United States completely in the shade if present indications are a criterion. The advance couriers of the army of special Dleaders are already at work, and the oc- casion of their activity may be traced di- rectly to the approaching fair and exposi- tion at Convention Hall and the armory anmex for the benefit of the national Ma- ‘sonic Temple building fund. Amofg the features of the enterprise will be the awarding of valuable and useful articles and ornaments to individuals who receive the majority of votes cast by the crowds which will attend the fair, and among them are typewriters for the most popular male and the most popular and next popu- lar female scholar in the District public schools, and most popular lady typewriter; a bicycle for the most popular letter car- rier, 2 complete plumbers’ outfit for the most favored journeyman plumber, a solid silver punch ‘bowl to the most’ popular caterer or restaurant, libraries to the most popular fire company and most popular po- lice precinct, and a host of other things. Action of District Comminsioners, The District’ Commissioners yesterday, after consultation with Director General George W. Evans and Secretary Howard Perry of the board of control, decided to rescind that part of the regulations gov- erning the fire and police departments which forbid their members from selling tickets of any sort so far as the library contest is concerned under any restrictions deemed advisable by the chief of the fire and the major and superintendent of the Police department. The Commissioners were led to this action by the unusual! valuable character of the libraries in qu tion, They will each cost in the neighb heod of $600, and will consist of 500 vol- umes of well-selected literature, handsome- ly bound in modern library binding, and held in a fine substantial case. The direc- tor general and the secreta the caterer or restaurant soiid siiver punch bowl, and it will be exhibited in an avenue jeweler’s window, while the solitaire dia- mond Masonic jewel, to be voted to the most popular commander or past com- mander of Knight Templars, was also se- lected, and will be displayed in another Jeweler’s window.
