The walls and ceiling of the vestibule of Emperor William's palace at Potsdam have been lined with shells, pieces of quartz, agates, crystal and other miner- alogical specimens. It is an enormous apartment, sixty-eight feet square, and broken by six huge pillars. The floor is of teseellated marble and mosaic. The win- dows are of stained glass, but every inch of surface on the walls and ceiling is cov- ered with geological and mineralogical specimens, which have been collected from all corners of the globe by the imperial mineralogists and arranged under the di- rection of a famous artist. unique. but ugly.
