C. C. Bennet to discuss the armory question, which was almost completely for- gotten in the interstate drill enthusiasm, and the association formed under the name of the Mamescta Interstate Drill Associa- tion, with a capital of $10,000. The driil will be held at some point between the two cities, beginning July 25. “Officers were elected as follows: Presi- dent, Gen. W. B. Bend; vice president, Gen. One will be the maiden class, open to those who have never ertered an interstate drill be- fore, ard the other a free-for-all compe- tition. “Much encouragement has reached the officers of the association, but no meet- ing has been held since the organization.” Relative Rank of Officers. Because of the reorganizatiqn of the brigade last spring and the appointments that followed the selection of a new com- manding general, more changes occurred during the past year than during any pre- ceding twelve months in the histery of the guard. Stokes, inspector of rifle practice of the 2d Battalion, will tender his resignation. Capt. Helge G. Forsberg, Battery A, Light Artillery, has tendered his resignation. Beginning at 8:30 p.m. January 8 a se- ries of lectures on the subject of electricity as applied to military engineering will be delivered in the quarters of Company C, Engineer Battalion. An invitation has been extended to all officers of the guard ts sattend these lectures. Later, military sketching and reconnoisance will be dis- cussed. It is understood that the new home of the National Guard at the Center market building will contain a large apartment and a dark room, specially arranged to accommodate the blue printing department of the Engineer Battalion. The troop of cavalry mustered into the National Guard the 17th of November, and known as the Washington City Troop, has been officially designated Troop A. Over thirty members of the troop have been mustered in. The full quota will be enlisted, so it is stated, within a few days. The manual of physical drill of the United States army, prepared by First Lieut. E. L. Butts, has been prescribed for the use of the District of Columbia National Guard. The company team rifle match for Jan- uary will be shot Wednesday and Thurs- cay, the 12th and 13th irstants. The bat- talion and regimental team matches will both be shot Thursday, the 20th. Capt. Edward F. Riggs, aid-de-camp, has been directed to report to Capt. Her- bert J. Slocum, for temporary duty as as- sistant instructor of drills. All commissioned officers of the brigade have been directed to assemble at head- quarters the last Monday evening of each month between 8 and 10 o'clock. The commanding general and staff will be pieased to see all officers of the guard, who may choose to call, either socially or on business, the other Monday evenings cf the month. The National Guard Band has received the approval of the commanding general, and a circular is to be issued from head- quarters recommending it to guardsmen. It is the intention, both of headquarters and of the bandsmen themselves, to make the band one of the foremost bodies of its kind at the national capital. Preparations are being carried on satisfactorily for the initial concert of the band, to be held in the near future at one of the local theaters. A smile of wide dimensions is seen on all faces in the vicinity cf headquarters these days. The smile expands noticeably with the apprcach of Capt. Herbert J. Slo- cum. It seems that Capt. Slocum called at headquarters the other day, and, after ex- changing a few words with Gen. Harries, took his departure. That is pot all that was taken. The dashing captain returned a moment later, visibly agitated. Some one had ‘stolen his new bicycle, he said. An- other wheel was in front of the headquar- ters building, but it was of a different make of that owned by Capt. Slocum. A hasty telephone message was sent to police head- quarters and half a dozen detectives were soon investigating the case. Just before Capt. Slocum reported the loss of his wheel a prominent local minister had telephoned police headquarters and announced a sim- ilar loss, the wheel of the divine having been taken from in front of a banking in- stitution near the Treasury Department. It did not take the detectives very long to discover that Capt. Slocum, inadvertently, of course, had ridden off on the wheel be- longing to the minister. The captain's bi- cycle was found where he had left it, in front of the banking institution. Barely Possible. From Puck. Wing—“I don’t think this anti-foot-ball crusade will meet with much success.” King—“You can’t tell. The day may come when foct ball games will have to be pulled off in Nevada.” ——_—__+ e+ ____.
