He pulled out a penknife and cut him once in the back and again in the side, almost directly over the heart. Fortunately for Pryor, his arm was in the way, and the knife blade went into the upper part of his arm, clear to the bone, and a portion of the blade broke off, re- maining in the wound. The injured man Was taken to the Emergency Hospital, where an attempt was made to extract the Piece of knife blade. The police were in- structed to look put for Thompson, and about 10 o'clock he was sighted at 324 and N streets by Policeman Steinbraker, who chased him up to Potomac street, to Pros- pect avenue, and thence eastward to mid- way of the square. Thompson gave his age as twenty-eight, and informed the Police that he expected to get thirty days for the cutting. Instead he went down for a much longer period. Rain Badly Needed. The need of rain in the country at present is causing grave concern, and some crops which, early in the season, promised to yield good returns, are now literally dry- ing up under the intense heat of the past week and the want of rain. Unless relief comes the crops will be ruined. In some sections of the counties surrounding Georgetown it is reported that the pastures are burning up, and that the corn {s not earing, and is drying and shriveling up. Worst of all, the wells and springs are Cry- ing up, the first time this season. The roads are also in the worst of condition. The dust is from four to six inches deep, especially on many of the dirt roads, which is rather bad for traffic. A rain of three or four days’ duration would be welcomed by z Real Estate Transfers.
