Raltimore. Cincinnati The battle of tne was resumed yesterday, the Washingtons having the Clevelands as opponents, in the latter city, and the home club trounced our representatives quite easily, winning the game by the score of 10 to 5, and send- ing the statesmen into eleventh place. Sil- ver King was on the rubber for the Sen- atorlal outfit, and for the first three in- nings singles, doubles and triples were made off his delivery with such frequency that every chance the visitiag Senators had of winning the game was then and there dispelled. After the third inning King regained his nerve and pitched good ball, but it only served as a covering for retreat in good order on account of the men back of him being unable to do any- thing with their sticks. Cy Young did the twirling for the Clevelands, and although he was hit hard his ability wes conclu- sively demonstrated when he kept the safe ones from being mace with men on bases. Manager Tebeau was cbliged to put a patched up team in the field, O'Connor go- ing to center, Criger, another catener, go- ing to first, and the manager himself play- ing short in place of McKean. All the substitutes played well in the field, their greater weakness peng noticeable at the bat. Tebeiu has not'played the short field for years, yet he covered lois of ground and took in eight chances without the sem- biance of an error. The feature of the game, in a fielding sense, was the capiure of a line hit by Charley Reilly, a scorching Grive direct from O'Connor's bat. Washington scored in the first inning on Selbach’s double to left, l'eMont's single and an out. In the third two more were registered. Selbach again banged the ball for a single; DeMont followed with a dou- ble, scoring him, the latter coming home on Tucker's safe drive to left. The fourth gave the Senators one more. King reach- ed first on an error, went io third on Wrig- ley’s singie and home on Selbach’s safe drive to center. In the ninth the Washing- tons got their fifth and last run. Wrigley singled to right and after Selbach and DeMont had gone out, McGuire drove a three bagger into deep center, scoring Zeke. Tommy Tucker was again back in har- ness at first and besides fielding his po- sition well, batted nicely and coached with his old-time energy. CLEVEL A? A E. Vt. Ave. & H St. “** © Deseo Four Deserted Dressmakers Commit Suicide After a Hilarious Evening. A great sensation has been created in Paris by the discovery that four dress- makers have committed suicide by inhaling charcoal fumes in a flat belonging to the well-to-do Mme. Marechal, in the Fou- bourg Poisson-Rere. Mme Marechal had long suffered from melancholy because of the insanity of her husband, and it is sup- posed that she instigated the act and per- suaded the others, who were deserted either by their husbands or their iovers. The four met’in the evening, partook of a sumptuous dinner, with wine, sang and smoked until late, and concluded life with the statement in writing, sigred by all: “We die deliberately and without any re- gret.”” When the bodies were discovered the tables and floor were strewn with cigar- ettes and cigar ends. On the center table were letters addressed to their relatives. In the room with them a pet dog was found dead. ——____-e+—___ IN RECEIVERS’ HANDS. mileage of 1,314 and $85,622,000 of capital stock, have been placed in the hands of re- ceivers.
