Continuing, Senator Daniel satd: “War ts an awful thing, and God forbid that we should go into it needlessly. It is a dreadful and unspeakable calamity. But there is one fate for a nation worse than War; to trample on its history, to refuse to meet its destiny when it goes forth to meet it, and its hands quiver when such crimes as these are committed in its pres- ence. The world ts tired of Spain's mode of ruling. War in Cuba ought to stop, and Ought to stop now. Every day meaas mur- y and puts a drop of blood on our es- cutcheon. Our young men are departing from the patriotism of thetr fathers and worehip the all-ruling, all-decreasing dollar. We want some man in this country, some leader of men, who does not worship the golden calf. “That's Bryan,” shouted a voice. “I will not meation Bryan's name or ary “lam ttle patient In pull- other name,” said Senator Daniel. “I hope the day will never come when American blood is not thicker than water, but I hes!- tate to say that some of it is thicker, for some of it seems thinner than the Potomac which comes to us through the faucet.” He concluded as follows: “God forbid, heaven forbid, civilization forbid, Chris- tianity forbid that this hellish and mur- derous warfare continue longer. President of the United States, I pray God that rou may forbid it in the name of your country, and you will find no,name absent from the roll call of your country. God forbid that it lead to war, but ff-it comes I say let it come, and the Anglo-Saxon people will meet the shock with joy.” It was long before the enthusiastic ap- Plause subsided. Other Speakers. Dr. Foster Winn, who has been engaged as a surgeon in the Cuban army, described the war as he had seen it and detailed the rades of life, and death, in the island. Mrs. Clara Belle Brown, director general of the Woman's National Cuban League, described the progress of the organization, and the earnestness and enthusiasm women were showing in behalf of helping the Cu- bens. Col. Richard Hinton, the newspaper writer, deserived the ten years’ war in Cuba, of which he was an observer in the island. Before the meeting was closed a generous collection was taken up and a resolution acopted recognizing the bravery and man- lress of Dr. Winn in casting his fortunes with the Cubans. A resoluticn was alsu adopted thanking Mra. Metzerott for her kindness in tendering the Columbia Theater for the meeting = ee Ten New Members Admitted. Undine Juvenile Temple, Mrs. Emma F.
