14 THE EVENING STAR. THURSDAY, JUNE. 3, 1897-14 PAGES. . CHURCH OF OTR SAVIOR. Vestry of the New Brookland Parish Elected. Last night the congregation of the Church of Our Savior, which was created the parish of Brookland at the recent Epts- copal diocesan convention, held a meeting at the church and elected the following vestrymen: J. H. Small, sr., Dr. H. J. Pen- rod, W. H. Stalee, Wm. P. Armstrong, Benjamin F. Sparhawk, Chas. E. Davis, Rudolph Johnson and Wm. Miller. ‘This church has now severed all connec- tion with {ts mother church, St. Paul's of Rock Creek, of which it was a mission, and is an independent parish, with Rev. J. T. Crowe as pastor. It will be the work of the church now to begin to establish missions of its own, and, as Mr. Crowe has always been noted for his energy and ability for missionary work, the congre- gation feels equal to the undertaking. The fact that the church is but two years old and has a debt of only $1" Is good proof of the earnest work of both congregation and pastor. The new vestry elected last night will hold office for the remainder of the church year, and, from the energy and ability the gentlemen selected have shown, since the very commencement of the move- ment to build up an Episcopal church, every confidence is placed in the proper fulfillment of their duties. Of the five church congregations in Brookland the Church of Our Savior has made the most rapid progress and develop- ment. The congregation started in a small way, and for some time held its services In the town hall. It contained, however, many active workers, and efforts to secure a church building fund were early made. ‘The gift of a lot of ground by Mrs. Green Clay Goodloe enabled the building of the church edifice to begin much sooner than was anticipated, and the modest, but sub- stantial, brick structure which was erected attests the earnestness of the congregation. —— AUCTION SALES OF REAL ESTATE, &c.
