Staub, Masquerade Costume Ball—Protecting the Canal Mules—Local Notes of Interest. Mr. William H. Staub of 1629 324 street died suddenly this morning about 8 o'clock, at his home, surrounded by his family. Apoplexy is supposed to have been the cause. Mr. Staub was in the same room with his family, and was joking with one of his sons, when he fell off the chair upon which he was seated and dropped to the floor. When picked up he breathed his last, though Dr. A. B. Shekell, who lives only a block away, was summoned immediately. Death had been almost instantaneous, and the victim never spoke after the dread stroke. Mr. Staub had been a lifelong resi- dent of Georgetown, and was well known.
