Lecal Notes From Across Rock Creek Bridge of Interest to Citizens. The meteorological summary for the month of May from observations taken at Brace’s drug store, corner of 30th and M streets, by Prof. M. F. Burrows, shows that the mean temperature was 69.5 for the month. The maximum was 95 degrees, which occurred on the 11th, while the minimum was 41 degrees, occurring on the 8th, giving a monthly range of 54 degrees. During the month there were only nine fair days; ten clear days and twelve cloudy. ‘The total rainfall for the month was 2.41 inches, and there were sixteen days upon which 1-100 or more of an inch of rain fell. Thunderstorms occurred on the 3d, Sth, 18th, 19th, 22d and 28th. The prevail- ing direction of the wind was from the northwest, and on the 18th and 2Zsth the wind reached a gale from the northwest. Arlington Yards. At the Arlington stock yards some few cattle were offered and sold as follows: Best, 4 and 4% cents per pound; good, 3 and 3% cents; medium, 2% and 3 cents; common, 2 and 2% cents. There were 503 sheep and lambs put up, going at the fol- lowing prices: Sheep, 2 and 3% cents per pound, lambs, 4 and 5 cents; spring lanibs, 5 and 6% cents per pound. ‘There were 18 cows and calves, sold from $20 to #40 per head. The market was brisk for lambs and good for other stock. St. Joseph's Fair. The second night of the fair and festival for the benefit of St.Joseph’s Female Sciool, h street, was even more successful than the first, and all during the evening the grounds were crowded. Under the di- rection of Mrs. Hines, there was an exhibi- tion of fancy dancing in one of the front class rooms, in which a number of chil: took part. A good program is promised tonight. The ladies at the various tables are working hard to make the festival a success and their efforts are likely to be crowned with success, Interesting Talk.
