The very inclement weather was responsible for a rather limited attendance, although much business was transacted. Delegates were appointed to the coming convention here of the National Civil Service Reform Association, grade crossings were condemned, the alleged efforts of Repre- sentative John K. Cowen of Maryland to sceure an appointment as a member of the House District committee were frowned down upon and the effort of Health Officer Woodward to secure legislation bettering the condition of terement houses was heart- ily approved and commended. After the resignation of Mrs. Anna L. Woodbury had been accepted, and Dr. New- man had been elected to the vacancy in the council, the latter resigning the chairman- ship of the committee on religious organiza- tons, Miss Katharine P. Hosmer moveil that Mr. W. F. Willoughby be made chair- man of the committee on the relations of capital and labor, and that Mr. H. D. New- of pretty girls and a larg chorus, have proved satisfactory to the Fublic, and the opera is now in its second year of financial success. The audience last night was in good humor, and ap- plause was liberal and encores frequent. Miss Hilda Clark, the new Princess Bon- nie, is a great improvement over the one seen in the part last season. the is young and pleasing in appearance, has a good voice, unaer fair control, and sings with good expression and clear enunciation. Her inexperience upon the stege is manifest in her acting, but that awill be overcome. Fred Lenox, jr., the original Shrimps, replaces Frank Daniels, and is a decided improve- ment in this character, at least upon that popular comedian. _ George O'Donnell as Capt. Tarpaulin and Miss Bessie Fairbarn as Auntie Crabbe are both new in those parts, but both are fully capable and de- served the applause their work received. Robert Broderick, Joseph Greensfelder and Will Armstrong are old favorites, while Miss Jennie Goldthwaite is the cutest Kitty Clover imaginable.
