SUBURBAN NEWS ANACOSTIA, ‘The colored man who gave the name of ‘Wm. A. Brown and who, as stated in The Star of last evening, was arrested yesterday morning in Twining City on the charge of being one of-the highwaymen who attacked ‘Miss Edith Roberts and her grandmother near the District line about two weeks ago, has not as yet been identified. Miss Roberts came to Anacostia during the day in re- sponse to a request from Sergeant Anderson, but was not able to fully recognize the man as one of her assailants. He will, however, be held for the present, as the pol'ce author!- ties are confident they have the right party. It is said that Brown was recently released from the Albany penitentiary, where he served a term for larceny. Miss Roberts told Sergeant Anderson that she has reason to believe that a man named Jones, who lives near Hillsdale, was impli- cated in the recent assault upon her grand- mother and herself, and steps will be taken to apprehend the party at once. Information has been received in Ana- costia that the colored boy who, it is al- leged, shot and killed Henry Moore on the farm of Mr. T. W. Middleton, a few miles from Anacostia, about two weeks ago, kas been arrested and is now in jail, awaiting the action of the grand jury of Prince George's county, Md. Messrs. Willlam Yost & Bro., the well- known builders of this town, have just com- pleted, near Suitland, Md., for Mr. Albert Carry of Washington, one of the finest ountry residences to be found in the vicin- ity of the national capital. It is replete with every modern convenience, including hot and cold water, gas, ete., and no ex- ense has been spared to make it an ideal ome. ‘The same builders have also received an order to build for Mr. Carry a/stable to ccst $6,000, and other buildings on an equally extensive scale will be constructed. Not long ago Mr. Carry purchased the farm known as the Elliott place, intending to re- side there, in quiet retirement, but within a short time he decided to take an interest in raising fine cattle, and he will, it is un- derstood, steck it with some of the finest breeds that can be imported. ———_—_-— FALLS CHURCH. Graham Mason, colored, was today tried, sentenced an@ convicted of an assault with intent to rape Rachel Ross, .The jury try- ing his case only remained out a minute and brought in a verdict. Mason got the full limit of the law, ten years in the Maryland penitentiary. This sentence car- ries out the judge's instruction to the grand jury. He said rape was becoming too frequent in this county and as the court did not believe in lynching as a pre- ventive, upon the conviction of any parties connected with a crime of this kind, he would give them the full limit of the law.
