10 : THE EVENING STAR, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1894-TWELVE PAGES. ON TO WASHINGTON. Gen. Booth of the Szivation Arm Has Started for This City. Gen. Booth, having finished his work in New York city and its vicinity, has turned his face toward Washington, and is now in Philadelphia on his way hese. Monday morning Gen. Booth and his staff officers will leave Philadelphia for Washington, ar- riving here about 2 o'clock in the afternoon. They will be welcomed at the station by representatives of the Auxiliary League, in- cluding some prominent clergymen, and also by the Salvation Army officers of Washing- ton and the surrounding states. The Rev. Dr. Newman, pastor of the First Congrega- tional Caurch, will probably welcome Gen. Booth in an informai address on behalf of the Auxiliary League. The general will re- spond; the salvationtsts will give him a more demonstrative greeting; the National Staff Band wil! play some army music, and then the general will be driven to the resi- dence of Secretary Woodward of the Aux- illary..League, where he will be entertained during his visit here, and the other staff officers will be taken to the homes where they are to be entertained. Gen. Booth will probable arrange, later in the day, to meet the clergy of the city, while the other army officers, headed by. the National Staff Band, will give Washington the unusual spectacle of a fine Salvation Army procession. In the evening the savationists will escort Gen. Booth to Convention Hall, arriving there probably about 7:30, so that all the final arrangements can be completed, in order that the meeting may begin promptly at $ o'clock. After 8 o’tlock no seats will be reserved, but it is expected that every seat in the house will be taken and filled before that hour. Gen. Booth particularly desires that everybody shall be seated be- fore $ o'clock, so that the meeting may not be interrupted by people coming late. ‘Those who expect to. go would do well to avoid the Tush at the last moment by getting their re- served seats at Droop’s for only 25 cents before Monday. Many inquiries have come to members of the Auxiliary League as to what the program of the meeting will be, but these cannot be answered, except by saying that one of the delightful things atout Salvation Army meetings is that there is no cut and dried program. Mr. Justice Strong of the Supreme Court, retired, will introduce Gen. Booth, and Gen. Booth will speak on the “Darkest England” scheme end other work of the Salvation Army, but what other officers will speak or sing, or what music the National Staff Band will Play, no one can tell in advance. Gen. Booth will make the meeting intensely interesting, as he does all his meetings, and he will be ably supported by his officers. Washington has never seen anything just like it, and perhaps never will again, for in all proba- bility Gen. Booth will never return to this country. D. K.Varzhabedian 1216 F St. N.W.
