The dam on the Northwestern branch in the rear of Holliday’s subdivision was the scene of a personal encounter yesterday morning between an Irishman named Den- nis O'Toole and a colored man known as Jerry Henderson. It appears that the two men had a quiet knowledge of the fact that there existed at the dam an unusual num- ber of chubs and mullets, and they forth- with repaired to the place to engage in the sport of angling the fish. Henderson was the first to reach the place, and when the Irishman appeared later he began to hurl epithets at the colored individual for fishing in his favorite spot. Words brought blows, and the two men clinched, and H derson was finally thrown into the water, which, fortunately, was not of a sufficient depth to drown him.
