The affair will consist of exercises on the horizontal bar, on the vaulting bar, a musical dumb bell drill, exercises on the parailel bars, on the German horse, tumbling and other 1 teresting performances. The boys’ classes have been forging ahead at a great rate this winter and will unquestionably show up creditably in their coming performance. Base Ball Prospects. The base ball: team of the Y. M. C. A, which has been’ so successful for the past two years, is now at work getting ready for the spring opening. Nearly all the old players, who have won so many laurels in the past, are back again, and great things are looked for from the team, Sanford, unfortunately, will not return, but although he will be missed by the Y. M. C. A., he has not given up base ball, and will be found playing on the Petersburg, Va., team. Most of the otner players are back and wiil be seen in their familiar places. Hodge. will catch, while Colliflower, as pitcner, will twirl the sphere. McCreery, O'Hagan, John- son, Balway and Hauptman will also play, although their positions are not quite de- cided upon as yet. There are four or five other candidates for places. ‘The third team match between the Young Men's Christian Association and the Wash- ington Chess Club “Pollock team” will take place on Monday night, at the rooms of the Washington Chess Club, 921 F street Torthwest. The tinal bouts in the fencing champion- ship of America, under auspices of the American Athletic Union and the Amateur | Fencers’ League of America, will be held on March 30 and 31. The preliminary bouts will take place for the various clubs wis! ing to enter men some time during Feb- ruary. Fencing is a thing which few peo- ple go in for, but those who do tackle it are usually enthusiasts over the sport. Discussed at a Meeting of the Citizens’ Association Last Evening. The Brightwood Citizens’ Association met at Brightwood last night. A large number of prominent men interested in the welfare and development of that section were at the meeting. Several important discus- sions took place and a considerable amount of business was transacted and acted upon. The president of the association, Mr. W. A. Gatley, took the chair, and the meeting was opened with the reading of the min- utes of the last meeting by Mr. Arthur L. Keene, secretary. An opportunity was then given the members by the chair to pay up their dues, who amiably responded. Mr. Keene then said to the association that in response to a letter from Mr. Birney he had gotten from him fifty copies of the “memorial to Congress by the joint execu- tive committees of the Citizens’ Associa- tions of the District of Columbia against the repeal of the 50 per cent annual con- gressional appropriation law.” Because of its great value to the people of the District he considered it the duty of the tion to aid the central committee in defray- ing the expenses of its publication. He said that copies had been sent to all the judges of the District courts, all the Senators and Representatives, the govern- ors of the states and territories and the mayors of all the large towns as an edu- cator to them of the relationg existing be tween the federal government and the Dis- trict of Columbia. The treasurer of the as- sociation, Mr. Osborne, presented the books and vouchers for the past year, and asked that they be referred to an auditing com- mittee. Mr. N. E. Robinson and Mr. J. L. Norris were appointed as such a committee. As to Raflroad Matters. Mr. Daniel Ramey, the chairman of the railroad committee, reported that on ac- this Company can give you liberal terms. Washington never had a country club before it was started, al- though there are five such in New York, two in Boston, one fifteen years old in Bal- timore, and at least one in most of the large cities of the country. The club, al- though so new here, has already met with the approval and the support of many of the best citizens. Ic ts, perhaps, first of ail, a hunting club, owning some fine horses and some good dogs, and its hunts have been always occasicns of interest to the members and their outside friends. But the club also has many polo enthusiasts, who have been regularly playing the game. Golf, which is a game unfamiliar to many, has also received a good deal of attention, and is quite popular, although it is not, of about the doings of this organization, the|ter of coupon tickets, entitling one to a free passage on one of the city roads after entering the city from the Brightwood line, or vice versa, the president of the road said that at present it was impossible. Mr. ey also reported that it was the wish of the Commissioners that in regard to Ughting the appropriation be lumped so that they might expend the money as they deemed bes At this point’ Bi ir. Ramey took the oppor- tunity to resign as chairman of the railroad committee for reasons personal, hut said that his ardor for the cause would not cease, and he would eve> be ready to work in the interest of the association. His resignetion was accepted with rezrets, and Mr. Robinson was appointed in his stead. It was then moved by Mr. Ramey that all standing committees be abolished, and thi hereafter special committees be appointed with regard to special needs. M->.
