Yesterday, in addition to a long line of low coal-covered conveyances gliding within the town, bright new lumber- laden and stone-weighted house boats came down and took their place in line. These produets of the upper Potomac and canal are coming in faster and faster as the busiest sea- son of the year approaches. Boats to arrive in Georgetown on June 28 were as follows: F. Flanagan, R.S. Somer- ville, E. M. Guievan, Fred Willard, Jos. Bryan, J. K. Shaw, No. 111, J. R. McLean and Consoli- dation No. 13. Boats cleared Georgetown on June 28 as fol- low: Muskingum, 8. Henry, No. 110, C. F. T. Beale, Geo. 8. French, No. 113, No. 114, E. E. K., junior; F. Flanagan, Consolidation No. 9, C. Wadamas, D. W. Sloan, Judge Bradley and scow. Boats cleared Cumberland for Georgétown, June 28, as follows: For the Meredith-Winship Company, Consolidation No. 2, No. 119, No. 102, Suite Rob, W. B. Orme and John Leetch. For John P. Agnew there left the Anteos, Ollie V. Hanekamp, Suite Walter and A. Green- lees. PLEASANT COACHING. Mrs. C. N. Davidson gave a coaching pgrty yesterday to the Falls. There were quite a number of young people along and an immense amount of fun. Sandwiches and song made the hours hustle in their flight Hammocks were rigged up in the woods and the afternoon spent in happy repose. Mr. John Hevenner held the ribbons. ‘Those who made the party were Miss Hastings, Mise Rose. Miss Jenkins, Mrs. Davidson and Messrs. Davidson, Warren and Rose. Goop HEALTE. Pharamacist Brace is authority for the state- ment that the health of Georgetown was never better than at present. The cholera scare had the result of increasing the sales of disin- fectants, and the measle outbreak stirred the medical profession up. There was, he thought, an unusually small number of summer com: laints and febrile cases on the docket. re was a noticeable improvement in, the general health and he attributed it to “the cholera scare, which had induced people to clean house, ventilate the back yard and look out for OPPOSED TO ELECTRICITY. Capt. Heebs of the Chesapeake and Ohio canal opposes the introduction of electricity along that waterway. Mules are good enough for him. He has been na’ on the ditch ee eee his hard- earned ex in canaling will count for naught if a new motive power is introduced. He thinks that to put electricity into use on the canal would be imitating railroad methods, and he is a “‘no-compromise man.” BARGE PARTY. There was s barge excursion given on the Potomac last night that will be numbered among the most pleasant events of the summer of ‘98. The Columbias’ big ten-oared Bow was used, sturdy men taking the blades and Fassett, Miss Yeatman and Mr. Kenyon.’ Mra Lee Harban and others chaperoned the party. LINTHICUM ENTERTAINMENT. In the presentation of the “Last Loaf” at Linthicum Hall last night there was an excel- lence displayed by the participants that is pended was apparent from the closing of the curtain. Mr. F. Weaver, who assumed the character of Mark Ashton, toad bie lines with | save ‘while Mize Alice Sebastian ue tale: the saithfel wife, by her grace, beauty and excellent rendi- tion'of the trying part, captured the audience and evoked well-earned applause. Mr. David B. Wood also made « decided hit in the part of Harry, and Miss Becker as Patty, the was coquettish and S. Ogle, the stuttering butcher; W. H. Cole- man as Dick Bustle, R. T. Ballard as Caled Hanson and Miss Moran as Lilly Ash- ton came in liberally for applause. Mr. A. L. Ogle made « hit with several excel-- lent recitations, and Mr. Robert Lowe of the Linthicum elocution class by his splendid rendition of ‘Casey st the Bat” and Oliver Wendell Holmes’ ‘September Gale” gained the liberal applause that he always merita. Wyvil Troxell in a piano solo, Mr. B. B. Smith ina comical religious comparison and Miss Jeannette Ray, who exhibited her command of the ivories, were also most enthusiastically re- ceived. Much of the success of the entertain- ment was due to the efforts of Mr. Walter T. Weaver, who gave it much time, attention and experience. AN EXCURSION PROJECTED. Yesterday afternoon bill was filed by Catherine A. Kidwell, one of the heirs of the Inte John L. Kidwell of Georgetown, who died in 1885, asking of the court that her sister, Emma MecCahill, be restrained from disposing of the estate, and to decree that it shall be held in trust. According to the bill the poeta er ane § includes four improved lots, paintings and other family cmeae and it is alleged that in 1873 the property was deeded | Ge by Mr. Kidwell, in trust, to Martin F. Morris for bis daughter, Catherine A. Kidwell, and to pay certain debts. In 1882 the two deeded the roperty over to another ter, Emma Me Pail, Now the plaintiff amerta = ya discovered that the deed was in fee simple, whereas she supposed it was to be held for the same trusts. a ‘These May Be Warm Days in Washington, But they are not at Bay Ridge.
