Jupiter Bell, with Mrs. Jupiter Joyce Bell and a company of singers, eppeared at Albaugh’s last night in opposition to the fireworks on the Monument lot, and while there was plenty of room on the lot there wasn't in Albaugh’s, although at 8 o'clock there were only two people there. It was, in reality, « fine audience, and as there were many left-over inauguration visitors present there was great enthusiasm and a spirited perform- ance. Mr. Bell. of course, is the show, and he is a very realistic and Digbybellistic Jupiter, which means that Jupiter is not the classic Olympiad he is in the books. But Digby gets there tout te meme, as they say in Athens. Narioxat.—“The Lost Paradise,” one of Charles Frohman’s productions, was presented at the National last night for the first time in Washington, and, although it might have been appropriate to be so just now, the audience was not composed entireiy of republicans. On the contrary, it was a very generai audience and plenty of it. “The Lost Paradise” is a play on the old and glways popular themes of love tri- umphant after many trials and tribulations, but | it adds the modern side line of the conflict of | labor and capital. ‘There i, of course, pathos in the play and the usual lighter vein, d the combination is of more or less ower. Electric suns on great stands of material were lighted, which brought out in strong relief the fine proportions of these two buildings. There was, however, a good deal of smoke, which concealed the effect of the illum- imation from those who were standing some distance from the buildings. At the same time from stands placed at intervals along the ave- ue sprang great masses of flame which flooded the broad thoroughfare with brillisnt light from one end to the other. Clouds of smoke, however. detracted somewhat from the effect. Acolonial salute of thirteen guns or rather bombs was fired from the Capitol and from the treasury. The fireworks display proper was held in front of the monument, and the colored Hghts brought out the great shaft with clearness so that could be seen ata great distance. The net pieces were much admired, and the show ‘was pronounced a fitting close to the festivities which have marked the second inauguration of Mr. Cleveland. poten” ie Se ‘Thanks From the Guardsmen. During the inauguration the tenth regiment. National Guard of Pennsylvania, Col. A. L. Hawkins, was quartered in the city post office building on G street. Chase, announced the fact that the one-mile limit had been maintained in the license law recently passed by Congress. Sullivan, Robert Fisher, Mabel Eaton, ladam von Grautman and that ‘sterling actor, Frederick de Belleville, who bas recently been added to the company, all combine to give the cast that evenness of merit that is so essential to a satisfactory presentation of this play. Hares’ Busou Taeater. — Harris’ Bijou ‘Theater was crowded to the doors last night. The play was the strong melodrama, “Under Paw.” which proved exceptionally entertaining and permitted a display of several fine acrobatic specialties, William O'Brien, 2s | the clown, immediately gained favor by his | humorous ‘antics and fine tumbling. The play will undoubtedly draw large audiences all the week. Kearsay’s Lyceva Tueater.—The Meteor Specialty Company, which commenced a week's engagement at Kernan’s last night, deserves to rank among the constellations, for cach number on the lengthy program was above the average. ‘The Johnson trio opened the performance with a plensing sketch and several good songs. Then came Larry Smith, the dialect comedian, assisted by Mist Maud Raymond in a laughable comedietta. Cain and Orndorf were very funny and Marion Carr Lyon, the lady possessed of two distinct yoices, warbled sweetly. The Acme Four kept the audience convulsed with laughter and James F. Hoey gave a side-split- ting specialty. Conway and Leland have to be seen to be appreciated, and La Petite Freddie is too well known toneed comment. _A laugh- able burlesque entitled Maloney’s Visit, in which Jos. J.
