WASHINGTON, D. C. MONDAY, MARCH 6, 1893—TWELVE PAGES. FINANCIAL. | FINANCIAL. FINANCIAL. SPECIAL NOTICES. SPECIAL NOTICES. “Looking Backward.” Swproee we take a dsp into the future. It requires no strong visionary attributes to imagine the time when Washington shall have two inhabitants for every one it now Bas; two residences for every one that now graces its beautiful streets, and two stores for every one that now supplies ite inhabit- ants, ‘When the heart of the city shall be situ- sted near 20th and the Boundary. When «number of magnificent tron Bridges will span the Potomac. ‘When massive public buildings will cover the entire mall from the avenue to B street south, and from the Capitol to the mona- ment. When three or fournew railrosds will Rave secured access to the city. ‘When the tremendous water power of the Great Falis will whirl the wheels of power- ful manufacturing machinery. ‘When our beautiful streets shall be ex- tended to the entire District line to the north, east, south snd weet. When the finest zoological park in the weorid wil be slmost entirely surrounded by magnificent residences. ‘While this may sousd somewhat myth- feal it ts plainly apparent to those in the Dest position to know that Washington pre sents far greater possibilities today for making immense fortunes in real estate than it has ever done since {t was founded ‘Washington {s just as sure to tecome the seat of all that is sefentificaily. socially and intellectually supreme as it's already the seat of our great and powerful government, and altbouch tmmense fortunes have al- ready been made in the past in real estate speculation it is safe to say that greater for- tunes are yet in sfore for the shrewd and farsighted investors. If you contemplate purchasing real es- tate in and about Washington drop in and talk the matter over with us, for we are confident we can provide you with invest ments in improved and unimproved prop- erty sure to enbance in value in the near future. INVESTMENTS IN REAL ESTATE MAY BE DIVIDED INTO THREE CLASSES. First. Vacant ground in large and small quantities, elther in the city or adjacent to it, which is steadily increasing in value. Second. Improved property that is well rented, paying afair interest on the amount Invested, and at the same time increasing in value. Third. The safe investment of a large smountof money fn « business property Paying @ good percentage on the money {n- Vested. This class of property is very de- sirous for estates and capitalists who prefer ® steady income rather than @ specula- ton. Under these thres heads I present the fol- Jowing, taken from my books, to which I invite yourattention, and which I feel safe im recommending as being in every way all they are represented to be. CLASS 1—VACANT GROUND. 1S7 acres of land witbin the 3-mile circle of the city’scenter, possessing very valuable possibilities in more than one direction.and ‘Will Beyond doubt largely increase in value. Hees frontage of more than 350 feet on 16th street by a depth of 150 fect fronting directly on the new Hancock Circle. This is a mag- nificent piece of property which as the city develops will more than double in value and prove to be the most beautiful resident site in the city. This piece of property I can sell for $3 per sq. ft CLASS 2-BUSINESS PROPERTY. A large business building on F st. near ‘th. More people pase this corner than any other one im the city. It is ovcupied by the best of tenants and the rentals amount to abou: $6,000 rer annum. ‘The location is such as to wake it absolutely sare that this property will increase im ‘Value, while the present rents! pays a very fatr income on the price at which the prop- ‘erty can now be bought—namely, $130,000. Very snug little piece of business property situated on the corner of 12th and G sts, BW. having a frontage of 25 ft. oa Gat. CLASS 3-INVESTMENT PROPERTY. ‘Under this head I nave several opportant- tes for safe investments. Among my ell- ents are merchants of perfectly reliable Sanding. who will legse business buildiues erected for them, giving ample security for the prompt payment of rent and also pay- ings good percentage on the capital in- Vested. MR SHERMAN TRODUCKS A goINT RESO-| LUTION TO CHANGE THE DATE oF TER IN-| AUGURATION OF THE PRESIDENT AXD VICE | PRESIDENT To APRIL 30, ‘The crowds which packed the Senate galleries this morning and the multitude of peo-| ple that surged through the corridors and on the staircases of the Capitol furnished evidence that many thousands of the | strangers who had come to Washington to wit- ness the inaugural ceremonie had not yet left the city and were determined to enjoy as much of the show as might still be presented. When Vice President Stev- enson made his appearance in company with the Rev. Dr. Butler, chaplain of the Sen- ate, the spectators in the galleries could not re- strain their impatient enthusiasm, and broke into « round of hand-clapping. This ceased only when the prayer began and was renewod when the Vice President’ at the close of the prayer took his place as presiding officer, THE CABINET NOMINATIONS, When order was restored Secretary McCook read the journal of Saturday last, Then Sena- tors Blackburn (Ky.) and Allison (Jowa) reported that asthe = committee which had been appointed to wait upon the President of the United States they had performed that duty and had been requested by the President to inform the Senate that he would communicate immedi- ately in writing. Immediately afterward Mr. Pruden, one of the President's secro- taries, ‘appeared and delivered a message from ‘the President of the United States trans- mitting the cabinet nominations, and thereupon the Senate went into executive session. The doors had been closed about fifteen minutes and then they were reopened, the cab- inet having been in the meantime unanimously confirmed. On tho maritime exchange today groups of shipping men discussed the probable fate ow big new freighter Ni c of the White Star line, which i now overdue exactly two weeks and wondered if she has anything to do with the delay in the arrival of the National liver Italy and the St. Enoch, which are both overdue ‘Over the same ocean pathway as the N The whereabouts of the Alsat Gibraltar February 13, the Apol werp Febrasry 17, and the { . Of all this ficet the Naronic fe the new steamship fitted with “twin” screws and considered by her builders to be almost non-sinkable. In consequence the chief interest is centered in ber and every possible theory that the minds of men that spend their lives in the shipping bne- Aness can evolve bas been advanced and consid- ered. Has abe burned at een and has ber steel hall gone to the bottom? Has one of her pon- derous engines broken loose and torn a nection of her bottom out? Hi, he collided with some derelict or iceberg at night and met the fate of the Cunarder Oregon? Isshe drifting disabled under ber scanty showing of canvas toward the Azores, or is in tow of one of the overdue fleet making for this or some other port? All these guesses are possibilities, bat none seem to have any particular weight with the maritime rinds, and theagents of the White Star line say briefly that they cannot account for her mysterious delay and fear the worst— that her fate may never be known. It has come to that at inst, for, while her agents still claim to have hope, they readily admit their fears. OTHER NISHING ONES, None of the overduo fleet is.as fast or sea worthy as the Naronic. The St. Enoch is @ staunch vessel of 2.746 tons, commanded by Capt. Ogilvie. She steams ten know an hour and her delay of four days is cansing more overdae here italy is one of the old timers, a veritable slow coach. She was built in Glasgow in 1870, and bas bad almost as many sensational experi- ences in her long carcer as are attributed to the Flving Dutchman. She is commanded by Capt, Foot andis 4,160 tons gross register. The Alsatia and Apollo are both immigrant ships and slow. While either may have fallen in with and be in the company of the Naronic, . Enoch they may be delaved, too, through stress of weather. The most generally considered theory regarding tae Naronic’s dis appearance (for she bas not been seen tm twenty-one days) is that she hes been burned. The nature of her cargo, which consisted of tallow and merchandise generally of an inflam- mable nature, hus led to this Lelief. the election of Senators, but objection was | made by Mr. Wolcott (Col.) and the resolution went over without action.
