Just now, however, there is comparatively little to give out nor will there bo very much until the various subcommittecs have organized and got fairly down to work. All this will transpire within the week. In the meantime routine business is moving along in the most | systematic manner at headquarters and every- thing has settled down a thoroughly satisfactory way. The work is ail well in band, and, considering the time sinc the committee was appointed, a vast amount has been accomplished. The expectation is that they will agro to a bill revealing the purchase clause of the Sber- man law,for the coinage of the silver purchased under that law, for the issae of currency by banks to the full par value of the b they have on deposit and for the reduo- tion of the tax on national bank circulation from 1 per cent to one-half of 1 per cont. An attempt will be made to further amend tho bill s0 as to have it include the re-enactment of th Bland bill, As Cleveland thinks this is about the best thing that can be done under the cir- cumstances it may carry, but it is not popular in the committee. The prospects of anything being done after the bill comes from the committee are rot bright. About the only way the matter could be brought to a vote in the House would be by a Unanimous agreement to take up the Bland free coinage bill and then to bring in this other asa substitute. ‘This would be # very dunger- ous thing for the anti-silver men to agree to, as it might result in the adoption of the free coinage bill. The President still has before him for re- vision the circular prepared by the Treasury Department prescribing certain quarantine regulations and incidentally restricting immi- gration during the prevalence of cholera in Europe. Nothing is known authoritatively as tothe pre- cise character of the circular or what action the President will finally conclude to ta Ttis intimated that it prescribes a seven days’ quar- antine on the other side and a medical exami- nation on this side of the immigrants, thus doing away with the twenty days’ quarantine after arrival. This however, mere conjecture.
